MISSION

Our mission at Providence Cardiovascular disease program is to train outstanding future clinicians in the broad field of cardiovascular medicine who will portray excellent clinical competency with an utmost commitment to patient care.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  • Expose our fellows to a rigorous and comprehensive, yet individualized clinical training experience.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship in clinical research according to the aspiration of the trainee.

  • Ensure that our fellows receive the support and supervision that is needed during their training, with adequate faculty and staff.

  • Maintain a collaborative and collegial environment necessary for our trainees to get ready for their independent and life long careers.

  • Provide fellows in training with teaching opportunities to help them build their skills, as we prepare them to become teachers and mentors in their field.

CLINICAL SITES

Henry Ford Providence Hospital is a community hospital with two campuses located in Southfield (395 beds) and Novi (259 beds). The hospital provides tertiary care in Oakland County and to the population of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. Our cardiovascular fellowship program received its initial accreditation in 1987. Ascension Providence Hospital is the center for a very active EMS program for the cities of Southfield, Oak Park, and Novi and therefore accepts a large number emergencies (STEMIs). Our main Southfield campus has 6 labs (4 cath and 2 EP labs with 1 lab functioning as hybrid for our structural procedures such as TAVI, Mitraclip, Left Atrial Appendage Occluder Devices, etc) with support from our excellent cardiothoracic surgery team. Our centers (Novi and Southfield) receive a high volume of diagnostic and interventional cases.

DIDACTICS

The didactic lectures include core lectures administered during the entire fellowship geared toward fellows learning as they progress during their 3 years especially our fellow favorite board review conferences (echo/nuclear/vascular/CT) given by faculty. Presentations are also given by fellows including clinical cases, M&M, journal clubs, and much more. Our faculty is deeply involved in participating in these didactics and our fellows greatly benefit from discussions and presentations of difficult as well as multidisciplinary cases.
